Christine’s literary criticism publications are focused on the modern/contemporary ‎Italian literature and aim to explore a new philosophical approach on the literary text.

Curriculum

Prof. Christine Samir Girgis is an accomplished academic specializing in 20th-century Italian literature. She currently serves as an Associate Professor of 20th Century Italian Literature at Badr University in Cairo (BUC), Egypt, a position she has held since February 2025. Prior to this, Prof. Girgis was an Assistant Professor in the Faculty of Linguistics and Translation at BUC (Italian Department), from July 2019. Prof. Girgis earned her PhD in Comparative Literature from Helwan University in 2017, where her research focused on the deteriorating middle-class in the works of Alberto Moravia and ʻAbd al-Quddūs, following a philolosphical-literary approach. Her doctoral thesis, "La borghesia decadente tra Moravia ne Gli indiff erenti e La noia e ʻAbd al-Quddūs in Al-Tāryq al-Māsdwd e Al-Nāzarah al-Sāwda," received first-class honors. She also holds an MA in Modern Literatures (Storia della critica letteraria), from Università degli Studi di Milano, which she completed with distinction in 2015. A prolific writer, Prof. Girgis has published numerous articles in reputable journals such as Philology Magazine and Transulcutural Journal for Humanities and Social Sciences. Her publications explore modern and contemporary Italian literature, often integrating philosophical approaches to literary analysis. Notable works include studies on Dante, Antonio Tabucchi, and Ugo Betti. Prof. Girgis is actively involved in the academic community, regularly participating in international conferences. She has presented her research at events like The 1ST International Conference on Dante and the Arab World and The Second International Conference on Future Contexts. She also serves as a reviewer for several academic journals, including the Transulcutural Journal for Humanities and Social Sciences and the Journal of Humanities at Ain Shams University. In addition to her teaching and research responsibilities, Prof. Girgis coordinates the Italian curriculum within the Faculty of Linguistics at BUC. Prof. Girgis is a member of the Associazione Degli Italianisti (ADI) and continues to enhance her expertise through various training courses and workshops. Her personal interests include traveling, cultural exchange experiences, and enriching her literary knowledge through extensive reading.
