We are delighted to invite you to an open lecture by renowned historian of medicine and science, Professor Gianna Pomata, titled: Capriccio: An Italian Concept at the Crossroads of Early Modern Arts and Sciences.

The lecture will take place in person at the Norwegian Institute in Rome on Tuesday, 2 December at 6:00 PM CET (UTC +1). The event will also be live-streamed online, with the streaming link to be shared closer to the date.

Pomata's keynote address will conclude the study day Medicine and Literature in Italian Culture: Cross-Temporal Entanglements, organised by Professor John Ødemark (University of Oslo), Dr Marta Arnaldi (University of Oxford), and Professor Linda Bisello (Università della Svizzera Italiana). Exploring health, illness, therapy, and the body in Italian culture from the 13th century to today, the study day reflects an international, interdisciplinary dialogue.

Professor Pomata's lecture is the intellectual highlight of this event, as well as a celebration of ongoing collaborations across three research projects: · Translating Illness (Oxford) · Bodies in Translation: Science, Knowledge, and Sustainability in Cultural Translation (Oslo) · The "Civilization of Anatomy": The Genre of Literary Anatomies in Seventeenth-Century Italy (USI)

We hope that many of you will be able to attend and look forward to welcoming you, either in person or online.
